Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
We are located in Fair Haven, NJ. In addition to covering weddings and events in NJ, NY, and PA, we also love destination weddings. Because of that, we are willing to travel almost anywhere you will ask us to go!
How long have you been in business?
Husband and Wife Denny + Kate Testa both ran their own wedding businesses until they realized they do things better together. In 2009, they joined forces and created Off BEET Productions.
How far in advance do you book?
Typically, we book anywhere from 12 – 18 months before your event
What are your office hours, and what is the best way to contact you?
Office Hours are Tuesday-Thursday 10am-8pm. Or whenever we are not in the field doing something creative. The best way to reach us is via email at email@example.com.
Will you travel, and do you charge for travel?
We will, and want to go anywhere and everywhere! We love new and exciting wedding locations and are inspired by travel. We would love to go to any destination you will take us to!
We do not charge travel for NJ or NY weddings. Destination weddings outside of the tri-state area may require airfare and hotel accommodations for our team.
Do you have backup?
Absolutely! We need to be prepared for anything (and we mean ANYTHING). Therefore, we arrive at your wedding with not only backup camera equipment, but also enough equipment to be prepared for every possible situation. We often joke our cars are like clown cars filled with endless photography equipment 🙂
Who will be the photographer for my wedding?
We have multiple lead photographers at Off BEET all with their own specialties and strengths. Each photographer is hand selected and trained by owner Kate. Because no two artists see the world in the exact same way, each photographer has their own unique flair. However, the overall styles are all very similar.
We will match you with the best fit for your day. The photographer you choose when you book with us is the photographer who will be there for your day!
Why do you have multiple photographers? Does it mean they are not as good because they do not own their own studios?
Photographers are artists, and not every artist has the desire to operate their own studio. Billing, scheduling, editing, and album production are not for everyone. Because of this, our photographers have partnered with us so they can do what they do best and love to do – take amazing pictures. And they let us handle the rest!
Can you describe your photography style? Are all of the photographers at Off BEET similar?
We are all pretty similar. However, no two photographers see the world in the same way and therefore, each photographer at Off BEET has a similar yet unique wedding photography style (check out our unique portfolios under Our Team page). At Off BEET, we focus on creating natural, candid, and romantic wedding photos.
We like to say we are a mix of styles:
We take a mostly photo journalistic approach and believe in letting the day unfold naturally. We do not want to micro manage your day and create a photo shoot; we simply want to capture the real events that unfold at your wedding.
When creating portraits, we want our images to feel candid and unposed even though we may have told you what to do. We want your wedding images to be fun and lighthearted reflecting the feeling of the exciting wedding day.
We have a soft spot for classic romantic wedding imagery, so we will also spend a small amount of time on these to ensure your images are timeless.
And finally, we want your photos to reflect your personalities. We think it is important to get to know you and showcase your personality through our lens.
What type of gear do you use?
We use all top of the line Nikon and Canon equipment. We are 100% digital as we love to take tons of photos on your wedding day.
What do you wear?
We think your photography team should blend in, so we wear dark colors and dress business casual.
Do you create custom packages?
Absolutely! Every couple is different, and we tailor each package to fit your individual needs.
Can we see a full wedding that you have photographed?
Yes, just ask us, and we will be happy to send over a full wedding!
How many wedding do you photograph per year?
We are a boutique wedding studio and therefore limit the number of weddings each artist photographs to about 30 per year. This way, we can ensure that you will receive the highest quality service throughout the wedding process.
Will there be a second photographer at my wedding?
For any wedding over 100 guests, we highly recommend having a second photographer there.
What exactly do the second photographers do?
Every studio treats the role of the second photographer differently. At Off BEET our second shooters are there to capture groom prep and the moments that simply can not be captured by the main photographer. There are so many amazing moments that are happening during the day, and we ask our second shooters to focus on everything that the main photographer is not.
Do you offer RAW footage?
Raw footage is a bit different than it used to be. It’s also a hassle to watch it and most of the time, you never do.
The footage can be anywhere from 300-600GB. For the most part, that would take up a ton of space on your computer. The files are super large and probably won’t play back without issues because your computer isn’t fast enough to play them. You would then need an external hard drive or jump drive to store the footage on.
Raw footage isn’t easy to watch. We all shoot on HD digital media, which means every time we start and stop recording, a new video file is created. Now imagine how many times we do this throughout the entire wedding day, not to mention using 2-3 different cameras. What you end up with is hundreds of 10-60 second clips which we must sort, color correct and then piece it all together to create your wedding story. Who really has time to sift through and double click, watch for a few seconds, close, double click, watch, and close hundreds of times?
Also, audio is recorded on separate tracks. Keep in mind when you would be looking through the raw footage, the audio is going to sound like a 2nd grader shooting an after school project. We take hours to sync that all together. You again would just have it raw.
With all this said, if there are those who still want to purchase the raw footage, please let us know.
What is the difference between 1 or 2 cameras?
Having 1 videographer shooting your wedding can be done. However having 2 shooters allows them to have more freedom, creativity, and be at multiple places at once. During the ceremony or the first dance, one shooter will set up multiple cameras, however, if someone knocks the camera or a guest stands up in front of it, there is no one there to move to a better spot.
One shooter can only shoot so much footage. They will play it a little safe and get the must-have shots, but having two shooters allows one to grab the important shot and one to have a killer creative angle on it, giving the film a more dynamic feel.
Our films have the same editing style and feel to them whether you have one camera or two.
How long will my video be?
Our full day edits tend to be anywhere from 8-15 minutes long. Some packages include teasers and highlights. The number of hours you have filmed and the events of the day play a roll on how long the films will be.
Will I be able to listen to and watch the vows and toasts?
Yes! Your vows and toasts will be in the film.
What do you wear?
We think your videography team should blend in, so we wear dark colors and dress business casual.
What do you wear?
Tighty whities with a mini bow tie pin.
Do you use a playlist?
I have never played off a playlist, ever. Every crowd is different. Different music works for different crowds and certain types of music work at certain points in the night. It’s all about timing. Playing the right song at the right time is just epic.
Can I give you requests?
I’m not a huge fan or requests. However, no matter what, someone will eventually ask for a song. I use my judgment on whether or not I will play it. I love to make everyone happy, but some songs should just never be played 🙂
What is open format style?
An open format style is playing music from all genres. Bouncing all over. You’ll never know what will be played next.
What does Live DJ mean?
Live DJ means that everything you hear I am mixing live, in the moment. It’s really fun!
Denny is both the DJ and MC, WHAT?
You heard me. A good wedding DJ should be able to both entertain and mix great tunes. I know how to engage a crowd without being too much. It’ss not about me – it’s about your party!
