I often get asked where the best spot is for New Jersey summer
In my personal opinion there is no perfect spot, but rather we need to find the perfect spot for you. You should think of the engagement session as an editorial of your relationship. Therefore, you will want to pick a location that reflects a place you love to go together or doing an activity you like. New Jersey is full of amazing scenery but here are my top 3 most interesting spots to shoot for a great engagement session experience!
Asbury Park
Asbury
It has funky colored backgrounds, posh rooftop lounges overlooking the ocean, trendy eateries and shops all along the iconic boardwalk and beach.
This is the perfect versatile location because you can create a wide variety of looks in one shoot. We like to start the shoot on Cookman Avenue. This is a great spot to grab a craft cocktail to loosen yourselves up before heading out for some urban street photography. Next head down to convention hall and explore the ever-changing and creative graffiti art along the boardwalks North end. Take a walk south on the boardwalk to make your way down to the iconic carousel building. And finally, top off the engagement session with beautiful seaside sunset photos.
Post-session book a romantic overnight stay at The trendy Asbury Hotel and enjoy drinks on their gorgeous rooftop bar
Liberty State Park
Are you dreaming of the NYC skyline in your engagement photos? Liberty State Park offers breathtaking waterfront views of the Manhattan skyline. In addition to those iconic views, the park also offers many other options for backdrops. The old train station offers a glimpse into the past while the clean lines of the outer walls of The Empty Sky Memorial
If you choose to explore the less visited locations within the expansive park you will find true gems such as a small dock with beautiful tall grass. With the right lens, we may even capture lady liberty in the background.
Once your shoot is over, head to downtown Jersey City to try some of their amazing restaurants. We love Taqueria!
Sandy Hook
In my oponion, Its often hard to capture epic beach images unless you have a perfect sunset. New Jersey beaches are flat and great for a relaxing beach day, however they lack the same photogenic appeal of the pacific northwest or the rocky New England coast line.
However, shooting at Sandy hook offers so much more than the normal flat sand New Jersey beaches.
A six-mile stretch of protected coastline on the northern tip of NJ, Sandy Hook reminds me of being on the outer banks of North Carolina.
The peninsula is surrounded by water on both sides, which means you can capture the romantic evening sunset on the Raritan bay or the early morning sunrise on the ocean side.
Explore the remains of Fort Hancock for a more urban and funky background option.
Post engagement session head over to the Highlands for some yummy Jersey shore seafood. We suggest grabbing a cocktail at the Seafarer Bar for a cool setting with live music and then grabbing dinner at 2nd Jetty Seafood. Both hidden gems of the Jersey Shore.
